The Dead Good Club
Privacy & cookies
Last updated 8 September 2026
The short version. We collect your email address only if you give it to us on the newsletter sign-up, and your name and address if you buy a membership. We count readers with analytics, but only if you say yes to cookies. We do not sell, rent or trade anything about you, and there is an unsubscribe link in every issue.
Who we are
The Dead Good Club CIC is the data controller for this site. c/o Denot, 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom. Questions, or any request below: editor@deadgoodclub.com.
What we collect, and why
The newsletter sign-up
When you sign up to the newsletter we store your email address and, if you filled them in, your name and telephone number. We record that you ticked the consent box. The lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any issue, or by emailing us. We keep these details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
The consent you give when you sign up covers e-mail only. We do not send marketing text messages. A telephone number, if you give one, is stored against your record and nothing more.
Analytics
If you allow cookies, we use PostHog and Google Analytics to count pageviews and see which parts of the magazine are read. Each records the pages you visit, rough device and browser details, and an approximate location derived from your IP address, against a random identifier. We do not ask either to build a profile of anonymous readers, and we have not switched on Google’s advertising features. The lawful basis is your consent. If you refuse, or simply have not answered, no analytics cookie is set and no event is sent. The code does not load at all.
The other forms
The contact form and the event-submission form both send what you write to the editor’s mailbox by email, through Brevo. That means your name, your email address, and anything you type into the form. Your address is used to reply to you and is not added to the mailing list. Neither form writes your details to our server logs. Please keep your own copy if you need a record of what you sent.
Paying for a membership
The membership checkout on the memberships page is Zeffy’s, shown inside our page. What you type into it — your name, your email address, your postal address and your card details — goes to Zeffy and their payment processor, not to us. We never see or store a card number. Zeffy tells us who has bought a membership and where to post the pack, and we use that to post it and to answer you if something goes wrong. The lawful basis is our contract with you: you have bought something and we have to send it.
Server logs
Our host keeps ordinary request logs (IP address, page requested, time, browser) for a short period, to keep the site up and to deal with abuse. The lawful basis is our legitimate interests in running a secure site.
Cookies and similar storage
Nothing non-essential is stored until you agree. Here is everything this site stores, and the one thing it does not store itself — the membership form, which is Zeffy’s page shown inside ours:
| What | Purpose | Consent? |
|---|---|---|
dgc-cookie-consent | Remembers your answer to this very question, so we stop asking. | Not needed |
easy-eyes, easy-eyes-tip | Remembers whether you turned on the Easy Eyes readable theme. | Not needed |
dgc-shelf | Remembers the titles you bookmarked in the Library, so the shelf is there next time. Kept in this browser only. Never sent to us. | Not needed |
| Zeffy’s own cookies (payment form) | Set by Zeffy and its payment provider, on their domain, while the membership form is open on the memberships page — to run the checkout and to spot fraud. We do not set them and cannot read them. | Zeffy’s to ask |
ph_* (PostHog) | Analytics: recognises your browser between pages so a visit is counted once rather than many times. | Yes |
_ga, _ga_* (Google Analytics) | Analytics: recognises your browser between pages and visits so Google Analytics can count readers rather than page loads. | Yes |
The first three are stored by your own browser to honour something you asked for, so they do not need consent. The analytics ones do, and are only set if you press Allow. Changed your mind? reopens the question. Refusing later also switches off analytics for future visits.
That last row is the only third-party frame on the site, it loads on the memberships page and nowhere else, and what it stores is governed by Zeffy’s own notice rather than this one. Refusing our cookies does not stop it: it is not ours to switch off, and it is what takes the payment you came to make. If you would rather not have it in the page at all, the same form is at zeffy.com and the link under it goes there.
Who else sees it
We use a small number of companies to run the magazine. They process data on our instructions only:
- Brevo (France): stores the mailing list, sends the dispatches, and delivers letters sent through the contact form.
- PostHog (EU region): analytics, if you allowed it.
- Google (United States): analytics through Google Analytics, if you allowed it.
- Zeffy (Canada): runs the membership checkout, takes the payment through its own payment provider, and holds the details you give it there.
- Vercel (United States): hosts the site and keeps the server logs.
- Notion (United States): stores the magazine’s own words. No reader data is kept there.
We never sell, rent or trade your details.
Sending data abroad
Your mailing-list entry stays in Europe, and so does PostHog’s analytics data. Google Analytics and our hosting are provided by United States companies, so analytics you allowed and request logs may be handled outside the UK, and a membership payment is handled by Zeffy in Canada; those transfers rely on the UK’s approved safeguards for international transfers.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to what we do with it, or to have it sent elsewhere. Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time, and that does not affect anything done beforehand. Email editor@deadgoodclub.com and we will answer within one month.
If you think we have got it wrong you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at [ico.org.uk](https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/), though we would rather you told us first.
Children
The magazine is written for adults and we do not knowingly collect details from anyone under 13. If you think we have, tell us and we will delete them.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and the date at the top of it.
